The Africa Centre opens its call for the 2016 Artists In Residency program. This year’s residency consists of a four weeks of residence at the Bellagio Center on Lake Como, Italy. Africa Centre seeks fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, poets, video/filmmakers, composers, and visual artists, whose work is inspired by or relates to global or social issues.
Residents and their spouses receive free room and board as well as a space to work. Africa Centre will provide travel grants and modest stipends to offset incidental travel costs on a needs basis.
To be eligible, you must be an established professional. You must show a history of significant achievement, and published works, group or solo exhibitions, etc. You should have had a considerable impact on your artistic field, or have gained critical attention and international recognition. You must be able to demonstrate that your work influences a wide audience.
To apply, submit an application form, a one-page letter of recommendation from the outreach and selection partner, work samples, a CV, and published reviews. Also, include a chapter, section, draft or brief outline of the project you wish to work on at the Bellagio Center.
You can submit your application through the Africa Centre AIR online portal or by email. To submit by email, download the application form and send all required documents as attachment to airsubmissions@africacentre.net. Include in the email subject field your artistic discipline, i.e. visual arts/performing arts, followed by a dash and your full name. You can upload your submission to Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer and email the link to the folder.
