Anasoma Writing Contest

For the Anasoma Writing Contest, AMKA seeks original, unpublished content that inspires and promotes empowerment of Kenyan girls and women. Note, only Kenyans can enter the Anasoma Writing Contest. Five winners will receive $1,000 each and get published digitally and in print. To participate, send in a 500-word pitch to anasoma@amka.or.ke. You can pitch a book, comic, biography, etc.

Your content should seek to inspire everyone and promote gender equality. Therefore, you can focus on encouraging discussion and critical thinking around traditional gender roles. Same, you may portray men or women in roles different from traditional assigned in a patriarchal society. Or, focus on power dynamics between the sexes. Also, you may reflect on masculinity and femininity.

Along with your 500-word pitch, send a cover letter and your ID or passport. Your cover letter should include your contact details, including your country of residence, and a 50-word bio. In addition, format your pitch: Times New Roman, size 12, double spacing, and one-inch margins. Save your files as Microsoft Word. And, write your pitch mainly in English or Swahili.

A team of seven judges will select 15 top contenders. The top 15 will attend a training and writing workshop. Out of the 15, the judges will select the winning five. The winners will develop their pitches and work on the resulting manuscripts with a team of publishers. You can only submit one entry.

By submitting, you attest your submitted work is yours. Also, you grant Worldreader the right to digitally publish your material. Finally, direct all inquiries to anasoma@amka.or.ke.
