Artist In Residency (AIR): Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Residency Program
Deadline: Dec. 16, 2017.

The Africa Centre opens its call for its Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Residency Program. The residency consists of a four-week stay at the Bellagio Center on Lake Como, Italy.

Africa Centre seeks fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, poets, video/filmmakers, composers, and visual artists, whose work is inspired by or relates to global or social issues. It wants high-caliber African artists, in different stages of their development, from emerging to late career. The artist must be provocative, innovative, and stretching the boundaries of their artistic practice.

Residents and their spouses receive free room and board as well as a space to work. Africa Centre will provide travel grants and modest stipends to offset incidental travel costs on a needs basis.

You must show a history of significant achievement, and published works, group or solo exhibitions, etc. You should have had a considerable impact on your artistic field, or have gained critical attention and international recognition. You must be able to demonstrate that your work influences a wide audience.

To apply, submit an application form, a one-page letter of recommendation from the outreach and selection partner, work samples, a CV, and published reviews. Also, include a chapter, section, draft or brief outline of the project you wish to work on at the Bellagio Center.

For the emerging to mid-career residency, you can only submit your application through the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency FluidReview online portal. After creating a user ID, send an email to wanjiruk@africacentre.net with your first name, last name and email address requesting to be given access to the application form specific to Africa Centre’s AIR applicants.

You then will receive an email indicating you can begin your application process. Once you receive the email, you must complete a short eligibility form. Only then will you be able to access all of the application questions and can complete all application tasks. You can preview the application too.

To reiterate, you must file out an eligibility form, an applicant details form, and an application questionnaire. Also, you must send in work samples, an abbreviated CV, two recommendation letters, project outline and published reviews (optional).
