Caine Prize 2017 only accepts fictional short stories submission between 3,000 and 10,000 words from publishers on already published pieces. Publishers send in six original published copies of each entry to either:

Single works published in a journal, anthology or a book must include at least one copy of published print and five photocopies. Editors who wish to submit multiple stories from the print publication should send in six copies of the book or journal. The Caine Prize 2017 committee will only consider one story per author in each given year.

Please do not send in unpublished works, children stories, non-fiction writings, biographies, plays, or works shorter than 3000 words. The committee also does not accept e-books or digital versions of entries.

The Prize is awarded to a short story by an African writer published in English, whether in Africa or elsewhere. To qualify, you must have been born in Africa, or a national of an African country, or have a parent who is African by birth or nationality.

You can submit stories translated from other languages. However, Caine Prize will award a proportion of the prize money to the translator. Award prize includes a cash prize of £10,000 for the winning author and travel awards + £500 for the short-listed candidates. The winner also will go to three literature festivals in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria.
