EXPOUND Woman Issue Call

Going with its African focused Special Issue tradition, EXPOUND has opened calls for its special EXPOUND woman issue. This issue will exclusively explore and appreciate African female writers and artists. As an African woman, you should apply. This issue will be guest edited by Safia Elhillo and Unoma Azuah.

Sudanese Safia Elhillo is a Canem fellow and poetry editor for Kinfolks Quarterly: a journal of black expressionShe won the 2016 Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets for her Asmarani. She also is a joint winner of the 2015 Brunel University African Poetry Prize.

Nigerian Unoma Azuah teaches English at the Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago. As a university of Nigeria, Nsukka undergraduate, she edited the award-winning English department literary journal—The Muse. She has so far won the Hellman/Hammett award, the Urban Spectrum award, the Leonard Trawick award, the Association of Nigerian Authors/NDDC Flora Nwapa award and the Snyder-Aidoo book award.

EXPOUND Woman Issue Submission Guideline

Only African female writers and artists are eligible. So, you must be a citizen or a child of a citizen of an African country. In addition, you can submit previously unpublished short fiction, nonfiction, poetry, paintings, graphic arts, and photography.

Therefore, submit up to four pieces of poetry, paintings, graphic arts, and photography. You can also submit up to two pieces of short fiction, and nonfiction works.

Submission should be collated together in a single word document sent to expoundmagazineonline@gmail.com. Please do not submit PDFs. Especially relevant, in the subject line of your email, please write “The Woman Issue: (Insert Name), (Insert Genre)”.
