Manuscript Call: Graywolf Press Africa Prize

Manuscript Call: Graywolf Press Africa Prize
Deadline: Oct. 31, (12 midnight, CST).

The Graywolf Press Africa Prize will award an African author primarily residing in Africa with $12,000 advance and publication by Graywolf Press. A. Igoni Barrett and other Graywolf editors will judge the prize. Graywolf Press will ensure that the winning book becomes available in major markets in African countries.

The Graywolf Press Africa Prize is for writers with no prior published novel as it is a first novel manuscript prize. Although, it will accept submissions from applicants with prior books that are not novels.

Graywolf Press looks for distinctive, artistically singular works that are of high literary quality. It seeks novels that are engaged with the current moment, in our time. It wants authors who approach contemporary issues with innovative prose and fresh perspectives.

To enter, submit a full-length, previously unpublished novel manuscript. Your submission must be in English; although, it accepts translations. It will only consider electronic submissions through its Submittable page.

Upload your complete manuscript as a PDF or Word document (either .doc or .docx), and include a cover letter in the provided field. And, include relevant biographical information and a summary of the novel in your cover letter. Also, use a 12-point font, double space your text, and number your pages.

It will notify everyone by email once it chooses the winner. However, it will not answer any queries about the status of submitted manuscripts.

Direct all inquiries or report any difficulties submitting to submissions@graywolfpress.org.
