2017 SA Writers College Short Story Competition

2017 SA Writers College Short Story Competition
Deadline: April 30.

Send in your previously unpublished fiction or non-fiction stories, written in English, for the 2017 SA Writers College Short Story Competition. SA Writers College accepts submission from South African writers over the age of 16 who have been published 0-4 times. However, it makes an exception for unpaid articles or works published in newsletters/blogs that have fewer than 1,000 circulations. The winners will receive via electronic transfer R10,000 for first place, R5,000 for second place, and R2,000 for third place.

Therefore, to enter, submit a 2000-word maximum Word document to Nichola Meyer at Nichola@sawriterscollege.co.za. Basically, Writers College enjoys highly original, authentic and thought-provoking writing. It will discard entries exceeding the word count by 50 words. Also, mark your entry clearly with the subject line: SAWC Annual Short Story Competition.

Submission Guidelines

Then, use Arial or Times New Roman, size 12, and 1.5 or double spacing between lines. And include a cover page with your submission. Include the story title and your name, your email address and the total number of words of the entry in the cover page. Ensure your story has been edited and polished before submitting.

Before submitting an application, look through the competition archives or the past winning stories. Going through these resources will provide you information about what kind of writing appeals to SA Writers College.

2017 SA Writers College Short Story Competition judges include Ginny Swart, Alex Smith, Karen Jeynes, Fiona Ingram, Andrew Salomon, and Maya Fowler. The team will notify prize winners via email and announce it on their website. Hence, make sure you provide a valid email address with your entry.

Please note, if you do not receive an acknowledgment of your submission within three days, re-send your entry. Also, you should contact the team via email to ensure your email did not get lost in transit. Finally, direct all inquiries to Nichola Meyer at Nichola@sawriterscollege.co.za.
