On Thursday, July 7, Saraba Magazine announced its Saraba Manuscript Prize (Non-fiction Category) winning proposals. Five awardees were selected. Each awardee will complete their non-fiction writing project by Aug. 2016. They will receive a ₦100,000 advance, against royalties. The completed manuscripts will range in length from 10,000 to 25,000 words. Upon completion of the manuscript, each writer will receive feedback by a established writer like Noo Saro-Wiwa and Maxim Uzoatu. After the feedback, the manuscript will be edited and published as part of the Saraba Manuscript Project.

The goal of the manuscript project is to encourage and promote long-form writing by emerging writers, working in fiction and nonfiction. Ten manuscripts will be published in print and electronic form. Seed funding for the project was received from the Miles Morland Foundation.
