AERODROME publishes interviews, reviews, extracts and original creative writing. It aims to both champion and critique the art of writing, and showcase the subjects conveyed through books and writing.
AERODROME has a strong emphasis on literary fiction, memoir and current affairs from South Africa, the UK and the Commonwealth. But prepare to encounter everything from cookbooks to comics, from as far afield as Azerbaijan.
Poetry: publishes original poetry weekly, and welcomes your contributions. Poems can be submitted to poetry@aerodrome.co.za as an attachment, as a word document (.doc or .docx). Poems should be single spaced and not longer than 30 lines. Include your name alongside the title of each poem. If you are submitting several poems, please send them in a single document. Only submit a maximum of four poems at a time. Will only accept poems that have not been previously published (with the exception of having been published on your personal website or blog). Poems that land in our mailbox are evaluated on a monthly basis. Will be in touch within about four weeks from the date of your submission if your poetry has been selected for publication.
Short Story: publishes original short stories on a regular basis. Short stories between 800 and 5000 words can be submitted to fiction@aerodrome.co.za, attached as a word document (.doc or .docx). Please use “your name – story” as the file name. Writers of all nationalities are eligible to submit their stories, though their submissions must be in English. Text should be 12 pt Arial or Times New Roman and single spaced. Only stories that have not been previously published will be accepted. Please ensure that you have carefully edited and proofread your story. Sloppy submissions will not be considered. You will retain the copyright to your work, but by submitting it, you give AERODROME the permission to publish your story online, in print and elsewhere, and for your work to be edited by our editorial team. You also agree to giving online exclusivity for 30 days from the date of publication. If your submission is successful, we’ll be in touch within about two months.
