Deadline: August 31, 2018, 12 am CET.
Since October 2015, Prague – City of Literature offers residency stays for foreign writers and translators. It runs six residencies every year, which last two months. Its selection process happens during August and September. The program provides accommodation for free, a stipend of 600 euro per month and reimburses residents’ return ticket.
To apply, send your materials via the program’s online application form. It requires that you complete the application form. However, you may include an extract of a text published in Czech or English or sample of a translated text into Czech (max 2 pages).
Eligibility rule is simple. You should have a cultural interest in the location and a basic knowledge of English language. You must be a published writer, having published one literary work (not a private edition) or two broadcast or published radio dramas or one carried out or a published theatre play or at least one translated work of a Czech author.
Residents do participate in the local literary life. They attend author readings, meeting students, talks, or other activities arranged by the receiving institution or connected to the cultural events of the city. You would work on your writing during the stay.
And after your Prague – City of Literature residency, you must provide the Municipal Library in Prague with the text inspired by your stay. The Municipal Library in Prague will enter into a license agreement with you to use your text in electronic and printed publications.
Previous residents can’t apply again. If you have any questions, please contact the program at prague@cityofliterature.cz.
