Deadline: Oct. 15 (11:59 p.m. EDT).
Art Omi: Writers, formerly known as Ledig House, hosts authors and translators from around the world for residencies throughout the spring and fall. Residents select a residency of one week to two months.
The residency involves ten writers, at a time, gathering to live and work in a rural setting overlooking the Catskill Mountains. Art Omi is located two and a half hours north of New York City in the historic Hudson River Valley.
Residents write during the day or engage in quiet activities. While the evenings are usually more communal and networking driven. The program invites guests from the New York publishing community weekly to the house. Noted editors, agents, and book scouts go over to have dinner and conversation with the residents. The program also includes readings where the public can experience finished and in-process work by the resident writers and translators.
To apply, head over to the Residency’s Submittable. You would submit a cover letter, a brief statement of work history, a writing sample, and a one-page proposal of work to be completed during the residency. In your proposal, describe the work you will undertake while at Art Omi: Writers.
The cover letter should include your country of birth and residency, the language you write in, and your preferred residency dates. Do note there are only two sessions per year: Spring (March 22-May 31) and Fall (Sept. 6-Nov. 1). You also have to include where you heard about the residency from, why you want to live in the house, and what you expect to get from the experience.
Your work history statement should include any publications, performances, and writing credits you have. This can be submitted in CV format. And your writing sample should not be more than 50 pages. Also, indicate if the writing sample is published or unpublished; if published, where and other details.
If you do not write in English, your writing sample does NOT have to be an English translation. You should submit your writing sample in your mother tongue. However, the other three documentations must be submitted in English.
In addition to the required four, you must arrange to have a letter of recommendation submitted separately. The letter can be provided by a fellow writer, teacher, editor, literary agent, or any informed individual who can speak to your character and work.
The residencies are fully funded, including travel, room and board, meals, and workspaces and are made possible in part by Amazon.com.
