Deadline: May 26, 2018.
The Babishai Niwe Poetry Foundation opens its 2018 Babishai Poetry Competition to all African poets who will not have published a full-length poetry collection by July 2018.
Ugandan Beverley Nambozo Nsengiyunva founded The Babishai Poetry Prize in 2009 to shine a light on the Ugandan poetry scene. The 2018 Babishai Poetry Competition winner will receive $700USD and publication of a poetry chapbook.

Poems must be single-spaced, 10-40 lines each, and sent as word attachments. Do not include your name on the poem itself.
The Babishai Niwe Poetry Foundation will announce the longlisted poets in June and the shortlisted poets in July. Finally, it will announce the winners at the #Babishai2018 poetry festival. The festival will run Aug. 3-6 in Kapchorwa, Mbale, Eastern Uganda.

Is there a fee if one is to take part in this contest?
And are poems required strictly haiku or just any kind?
thanks

Kevin, there isn’t any fee and the poem does not have to be haiku this year. However, we would suggest you direct your questions to babishainiwe@babishainiwe.com.
