Deadline: September 30, 2018 (11:59 EST).
Barren Magazine accepts flash fiction, short fiction, poetry, photography, and essays about the complexities of the human condition.
Limit writing submissions to six (6) pieces at a time. There is no word count limit, but pieces with more than 5,000 words (or 2+ pages for poetry) require a longer response time and are less likely to be published.
And limit photography pieces to twenty (20) at a time. The Barren Magazine team is more likely to publish photos in landscape mode that fit its design aesthetic (increased contrast, muted colors) and center around everyday life, architecture, nature, locales, landscapes, urban decay, etc.
Email material to submissions@barrenmagazine.com as attachments or email inline. Please use a standard font type and double-space all fiction and essays. In the body of the email, also include:
- Name (as you would like printed)
- Title(s) (brief descriptions welcome)
- Short bio (please limit to 100 words. Third person preferred.)
- Author website (as applicable)
- Author Facebook and Twitter links (as applicable)
- Author Photo
For photography submissions that exceed email size allowance, please share them via Google Drive to barrenmag@gmail.com.
Barren Magazine accepts simultaneous submissions. The team prefers previously unpublished material but may accept previously published material as long as authors own its copyright and provide appropriate attribution.
Do read its current issue to get an idea of what catches the team’s eye. Allow up to four (4) weeks for a response. If you don’t hear back within this time, feel free to contact the team again. It will respond to all submissions.
