Deadline: Dec. 15.
Open to Zambian citizens only, the Kalemba Short Story Prize awards the best unpublished short fiction written in English. Ukusefya WORDS funds and administers the $1,000 annual award.
To enter, submit an unpublished short fiction piece(2,000-5,000 words), written in English. You don’t have to reside in Zambia to qualify for eligibility. You just have to be a Zambian national. Writers must submit their own, original, unpublished work by themselves. You can only submit one entry per writer.
The Kalemba Short Story Prize team will only accept submission submit through its online portal. The team also will accept translations. Ensure you submit the English translation along with any entry written in a Zambian language.
Save your story as a PDF or Word document, preferably PDF, with the story’s title as file name. Furthermore, strictly format your story as Arial, 11-point font, and 1.5 line spacing.
A panel consisting of authors, publishers, and editors will judge the entries. Copyright of each story remains with the writer. However, Ukusefya WORDS has the unrestricted right to publish the winning story. Also, the team expects the winner to take part in publicity activities.
Finally, direct all inquiries to info@ukusefya. And, do note, that the team will not respond to frivolous queries, especially around its eligibility rules.
