The SCrIBE scriptwriting competition provides an opportunity for South African writers to have their work produced and showcased. To enter, you must be 21+ years South African resident. You must currently reside in South Africa.
To apply, email a submit a completed entry form and your Microsoft Word document script to imbewusa@gmail.com, titled “Playwriting Competition”. The script must be written in English but may include portions written in one or more of any of the other official South African languages. The play must not contain any defamatory, offensive or obscene material, as determined by the Imbewu Trust in its sole discretion.
There may be no more than 5 characters in the play. Scripts must be a maximum of 40 typed A4 pages and must correspond to the standard model used for theatrical scripts. The length of the play may not exceed 80 minutes.
The prize for the winning script is the production of the winning play at a venue selected by the Trust. The Prize is not transferable and in the event of disqualification of the winning script for any reason whatsoever the Prize will be forfeited.
The SCrIBE scriptwriting competition’s panel of judges will select the final scripts. The finalists will be part of the stage reading. The Trust will contact the finalists by email and announce them on Sept. 1, 2018.
