Deadline: Ongoing, all year-round.
PRAXIS welcomes submissions of essays, projects, and responses to articles published by PRAXIS. Materials submitted are subject to editorial review and/ or external refereeing. All PRAXIS issues are themed, so projects or articles are selected in light of each issue’s particular subject.
Published twice-yearly by an all-volunteer staff, PRAXIS has received critical acclaim as well as numerous awards and honors, including an ID award in 2004 and has twice been awarded design grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Guidelines for Submissions of Text Articles
Send a query letter, abstract, or outline of your manuscript. A cover letter should describe your thesis or proposal and how it might relate to a larger theme in the journal. If images are critical to your essay, please include clear reproductions. If you are submitting an abstract or letter, a short writing sample that demonstrates your writing skills are helpful.
Digital files are strongly preferred to hard copies but letter-size Xeroxes are acceptable if submitted in triplicate. Acceptable file formats are .txt, .doc with .pdf (smaller than 5M) prefered.
Inform the editors whether the manuscript has been presented, published, or submitted for publication elsewhere. PRAXIS will not ordinarily reprint articles, however, we will consider material appearing in forthcoming books or anthologies or in translation.
Guidelines for Submissions of Design Work
PRAXIS encourages design professionals to keep us apprised of projects as they are awarded, in progress, and completed. Please provide a brief written description of the ideas, intents and program, and either digital or reproduced images. Please send edited documentation of representative plans, sections, and relevant conceptual sketches, model photos, construction photos, snapshots and, if available, final images. The materials sent should provide a clear explanation of the project, rather than an exhaustive representation.
Electronic submissions are strongly encouraged, but letter-size Xeroxes in triplicate are acceptable if the images read clearly. For preliminary submission, digital images should be either PDF, TIFF or JPG format, no larger than 1500 pixels in either dimension. Final submissions should be 400dpi TIFFs for images, and EPS files for line drawings.
Correspondence
As our staff and editorial board work in several cities across the United States, we can more quickly respond to electronic files. Send submissions to mail@praxisjournal.net. All submissions must include an email address and telephone number of each author.
