Submit to The Arkansas International
Deadline: rolling basis until April 1.

The Arkansas International promotes established and emerging voices. It welcomes previously unpublished, unsolicited submissions of fiction, poetry, essays, comics, and translated works. And it only accepts electronic submissions, via Submittable.

Note: the team does not accept submission fee until the cap is reached, excluding translations. But after they hit their cap, each submission after carries a $3 submission fee. According to the team, submissions usually hit the cap around the 12th or 13th of each month.

The Arkansas International welcomes prose submissions of up to 8,000 words, poem packets of up to five poems, and ask that excerpts from longer works be self-contained. It welcomes simultaneous submissions, provided you notify the team of a piece being accepted elsewhere.

Do not submit more than a single story, essay, or poem packet until you have heard back from the team about your previous submission. And if submitting multiple pieces, put them together in one submission. The team will return subsequent submissions unread since it caps the number received every month.

Include a copy of the original text when submitting translated works. However, note that in the cover letter if any extenuating circumstances preventing you from including the original text occurs. And before you send non-public-domain translations, identify the rights holder and obtain a statement that the rights to publish in English is available.

The Arkansas International does not accept work from anyone recently affiliated with the University of Arkansas, including those who studied or worked there within the past four years.

The team evaluates payment based on the budget of each issue. For issue six, it will pay contributors $20 per printed page, capped at $250, and with copies of the journal.

Finally, direct all inquiries to info@arkint.org.
