Submit to the third edition of Type Cast, Cape Town’s literary journal. Send your best noir, speculative fiction, and sci-fi, realist fiction to Type/Cast. You can also send in remixes of tales of magic and myth.
Email your previously unpublished submission, written in English, to submissions@typecast.org.za. It accepts prose, poetry and short nonfiction. It also publishes art and photography essays. Your fiction should be a maximum of 4,000 words, poetry submissions should be 3 poems max, and nonfiction should be 3,000 words max.
Submit your work you seek to be published as part of the third edition of Type Cast as Microsoft Word or .rtf files. Format your document with Times New Roman, 12pt, 1.5 line spacing. Also, do not include your name or identifying information in your document. Save the files as the title of your piece. Your name should only be written in the body of the email. Attach illustrations to the email.
If submitting art and illustrations, you should not email them in high resolution. For, Type/Cast will contact you for hi-res files should it decide to accept your art.
Also, submit a photograph and write a short bio in the body of the email. It accepts simultaneous submissions as long as you immediately withdraw your pieces if accepted elsewhere. It will edit your work if selected but will check all changes with you.
Type/Cast launched its first issue in August 2016 with acclaimed South African writer Imraan Coovadia, whose work has won the Sunday Times Fiction prize and long-listed for the prestigious International Dublin Literary Award. And issue 2 was published in December and guest edited by Yewande Omotoso, the winner of the 2012 South African Literary Award.
