Bitch Media runs the Bitch Media Fellowships for Writers. And, Bitch co-founder Andi Zeisler directs it. The fellowship, a series of three-month intensive writing, develops, supports, and amplifies emerging, diverse voices in feminist, activist, and pop-culture media.
The program, in its third year, seeks passionate and engaged fellows. The fellows will develop their unique voices during the four fellowships, earning a $2,000 stipend for the three-month period. Fellows can choose among the four quarters: January 1 – March 30, April 1 – June 30, July 1 – September 30, and October 1 – December 31.
Bitch Media Fellowships for Writers expectations
Fellows will write on either sexual politics, pop-culture criticism, technology, or global feminism. They will produce a minimum of six online articles, at least 600 words in length, for Bitch Media in the topic area of their fellowship. The writers can write in any writing form, either reported, analytical, advocacy-focused, or even infographic.
Same, the fellows shall produce at least one long-form article to be published in the quarterly magazine Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture. Other duties include participating in biweekly discussions by phone or Skype with the director and other Bitch Media staff.
In addition, fellows will receive mentorship and support in creating, shaping, and editing articles and blog posts. And, they will receive follow-up support with placing future articles and essays, while making great connections.
You don’t have to be based or move to Portland to be part of the fellowship. The fellowship has no age limit. The team only expects you to spend 10-15 hours a week on the fellowship.
Submit your application through Bitch Media’s submission manager. Send in three 600 to 2,500 words writing samples. Also, include a 600-words maximum cover letter describing your interest in the fellowship area of your choice. And, include a CV (no more than 2 pages) and answer the short questions to help Bitch get to know you.
Bitch Media will announce the 2018 Bitch Media Fellowships for Writers on November 15, 2017.
