Commonwealth Youth Council: Unseen & Unspoken

Commonwealth Youth Council: Unseen & Unspoken
Deadline: May 31, 2017 (1700 GMT).

Commonwealth Youth Council launches Unseen & Unspoken to commemorate World Braille Day. It seeks to raise awareness about the experience and lives of young people with disabilities who the spotlight does not really shine on. Therefore, submit poetry around the theme: My disability does not define me. The disability can be visible or invisible disabilities such as autism and dyslexia. You can

focus on [your] achievements and talents [you] have in spite of a disability, or positive traits developed as a result of disability.

Poems should not exceed 400 words. Enter your original poems, written in English, and not previously published or have won any competition before. Submissions can be made in typed written form, sign language or braille level 2 (English). Video submissions must be either accompanied by an interpreter doing a voice-over or have subtitles. The interpreter will not count as a team member. Commonwealth Youth Council won’t accept handwritten entries.

Provide your name(s), date of birth, citizenship, and poem title on a separate sheet if posted by mail or in the body of your email. Do not include it in your submission as entries would be judged anonymously.

You must be between the ages of 15 and 29, and a citizen of a Commonwealth country to qualify. Submit one poem per person. However, it accepts team submissions but restricts them to teams of 3. Email your submission to commonwealthyouthcouncilcyc@gmail.com. Also, you can mail it to Commonwealth Youth Council, Commonwealth Secretariat, FAO: Lawrence Muli, Room E101, Youth Division, Marlborough House, Pall Mall, St. James’s, London SW1Y 5HX.

Direct all inquiries to commonwealthyouthcouncilcyc@gmail.com.
