Fak’Ugesi call for artists to participate in the annual Digital Africa Festival’s Residency in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Residency in collaboration with Pro Helvetia Johannesburg.
The focus of the Fak’ugesi Festival is the role of alternative knowledge and organisational systems in technology. It seeks artists and creative technologists, from contemporary art, game design, interactive design and creative computing, who explore concepts of community, spirituality or femininity in technology in Africa in their works.
Successful applicants will be required to develop (in part) work in residence and engage publicly through their practice with attendees/participants in the Fak’ugesi Festival. Successful applicants are also expected to plan a public engagement activity. This may be through a workshop or another publicly engaging activity. In addition to these activities residents are expected to give a short talk on their practice, as part of the festival programme.

- Festival Dates: Aug. 19 – Sept 3.
- Full Festival Residency Period: 1 month, Aug. – Sept. 2016.
Only applicants in these regions are eligible to apply: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Seychelles, Tanzania (including Zanzibar), Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
