Jalada, on July 20, opened its call out for its Jalada Fear anthology, its sixth edition. You can submit previously unpublished fiction, poetry, visual art and essays that deal with fear. Any type of fear is fair game. Whether it’s the fear of the Other, the fear of death, the fear of failure or success, fear as a weaponised terror, fear of love. Or, it could be fear of spiders, crowds, heights, closed spaces etc. Whatever it is that man can be fearful of, you can write on it.
Submission Guidelines
For fiction, submit a maximum of three works of short fiction or excerpts. Save each story as a separate Microsoft Word document. Please don’t send PDFs. You should also include story titles and the name of the writer/translator.
You can also submit up to three poems with a maximum 10 pages limit. Send your poems in one single attachment with visible poem title/indication. Pieces should be formatted as follows: 2.0 spacing, 12 Font Times New Roman.
You can also submit scholarly/critical essays to the Jalada Fear anthology, maximum 7,000 words. Formatting for your fiction, poetry and essay should be 12 Font, Times New Roman, double-spaced.
You can also submit 2 copies of any visual art for web or print. Web resolution should be 72-150dpi. Minimum size should be 1024×768. Send in a JPG with RGB scheme. Remember, your art is to be published online. On the other hand, your print resolution should be 150 – 300 dpi. Minimum size should be A5. Send in a TIFF or PDF document with CMYK color scheme. Also include, along with your art: the title of the piece, the year it was created, and/or a short descriptive text.
You can also submit works that depict visual language, e.g. typographic poems, posters, display typography, etc.
Send your submissions to jaladaafrica@gmail.com. Each submission must contain the title of your piece and word count. Include “Fear” in your email subject line. Also include your 100 words third person biography with your submission.
If your work is a translation, please include the original piece which may have appeared elsewhere with your translation submission.
