As a general rule, Pan Macmillan South Africa does not accept unsolicited manuscripts. However, it will open a submission window from Nov. 20 to Nov. 24, 2017. Submit manuscripts that focus on general fiction, literary fiction, general non-fiction and memoir (bio or autobiography).
Pan Macmillan South Africa does not accept short story collections, poetry, plays and children’s books. It believes in publishing books by African authors and books that deal with contemporary African themes and issues. Pan Macmillan South Africa only accepts works of the highest writing standard. It will consider the level of originality and market appeal as it selects works for publication.
Pan Macmillan South Africa submission guidelines
For non-fiction, please submit a detailed chapter outline with the first three chapters or several selected finished chapters.
For fiction: please submit a one-page or less synopsis of the plot and the first three chapters. Please do not submit the entire manuscript. Also, include a note on your view of the potential market and readership of your book. And also send a note about competing books and what distinguishes yours. Lastly, don’t fail to include your contact details.
Type all materials and ensure all pages are numbered consecutively. Especially relevant, Pan Macmillan South Africa will not consider handwritten submissions.
