Teju Cole in his Eight Letters to a Young Writer advises any aspiring writer to keep a journal and write in it every day. Do you? But keeping a journal is not the preserve of writers because any introspective person, with literary skill or not, will soon write as a way to escape or understand or reveal uncharted psychologies of herself due to certain conditions she may find herself. Many extraordinary works of writing have been created this way. Powerful personal experiences, witness stories, travelogues, memoir writing, letters, deep reflections, political, philosophical and religious musings, questions on existence, and so on.

So if you have kept a journal, or you keep one, and you think you have something that should not be read by you alone or your children, when you pass on this journal to them, think of sending to Praxis Magazine Online.

Note, however, that because some journal writing is too personal, any story that is unabashedly sentimental, suicide notes, hate writings or any writing that harbors negative thought ARE UNLIKELY TO BE CONSIDERED.

Submission Guidelines

1. Journal stories are to be sent as an MS doc. to journal@praxismagonline.com (Suitable formatting: Times New Roman, font 12, double spacing.) NOTE: The date, and time, if available, of when said journal story was written is very important and must appear in the attached document. 
2. In the title of the email, write JOURNAL STORIES in caps with your name after it. Example: JOURNAL STORIES Musa Alabiri. In the body of the email, include the following:
   • Your name
   • Country and resident address
   • Word count of the story
   • A cover letter, not more than 200 words, describing the conditions that inspired your journal story
   • A possible title for the journal story
   • A short bio of yourself of not more than 100 words and a photo of yourself
3. Stories are to be accompanied by at least 3 clear photographs of the original story in the journal. (For 1-page stories, a single photograph is okay. For lengthier stories, a photograph of the beginning, somewhere in the middle, and the end of the story is okay.) All images should be high-resolution JPEGs, file size 2 megabytes max.
4. Word limit: 500 minimum, 4,500 maximum.

Digital journals

Journal stories kept in digital formats will also be accepted. In this case, submission guideline no. 3 is inapplicable.
