Commonwealth Writers seeks previously unpublished works, written in English, from Commonwealth islands writers for publication in its new Small Island Anthology.
Submit poetry, short stories, and non-fiction (creative non-fiction, memoir, and photo essay, or narrative essay), written from an island perspective.
Send your 1,500 – 6,000 words short story, or a completed first draft. Also, include a 300-word max writing history description, contact details and nationality.
For creative non-fiction, send a 1,500 – 6,000 word non-fiction piece, or a 750-word max outline of what you want to write and why. Include a 2,000-word max sample of your nonfiction writing. Also include a 300-word max writing history description, contact details and nationality. Should you seek a research commission for your piece, state it in your submission.
For poetry submissons, send three completed poems, a 300-word max writing history description, contact details and nationality.
You may send up to a maximum of one short story submission and three non-fiction proposals. Send submissions to commonwealthwriters@gmail.com, with the subject heading: “Small Island Anthology.” Label your submission short story, poetry or non-fiction.
Eligible countries are: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Jamaica, Kiribati, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Montserrat, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
Nicholas Laughlin, Caribbean Review of Book editor, will edit the Small Island Anthology.
Note: you can submit the same short story to the Small Islands anthology and the 2017 Commonwealth Short Story Prize (which opens for entries on 1 September).
