WAW, Words Are Work, accepts submissions for online publication all year long, on a monthly basis. Submit your previously unpublished fiction, poetry, and non-fiction works. It generally publishes up to 1000 words flash fiction and up to 3000 words short stories. WAW also accepts all types of creative nonfiction such as reviews, personal essays, memoir, and opinion pieces.
You can submit 500-800 words essays, opinions, commentaries, and reviews. For poetry, 32 lines or poems that fit on a single page.
Send your entries to submissions@wordsarework.com, addressed to the respective editor. Your email title should look like this: Fiction Editor: Blog Submission/[Your Name]/[Story Title]. Include a 50-words max bio and a small photo of yourself.
It does not accept simultaneous submissions. Published authors will receive a ₦2,000 voucher to be used towards any WAW product, service or paid programs/events. Submitting your work means you’re giving Words Are Work first world publication rights in English, and a one-year exclusivity, as well as the right to reprint the story once, non-exclusively, in an anthology.
You should hear back generally within 30 days. Send a query to the email address if you do not receive a response after 45 days.
