Deadline: Sept. 30, 2018.
The impepho press has opened the submission frame for collection of poetry and short stories to be published in 2019. The press is a Pan Africanist publishing house committed to the sincere telling of African and international stories. It accepts book-length manuscripts and collections, whether poetry or short stories.
It wants submissions from people born on the African continent or people of colour in the diaspora. It also wants submission from gender non-conforming Africans or people of colour living in the diaspora.
Poetry manuscripts should be between 65 to 100 pages. While short stories manuscripts should be between 100 pages to 150 pages. While it doesn’t encourage illustrations, it will not discount them if they add value to the text.
All submissions must be made on Microsoft Word and as a pdf; Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing, font size 12, unless the text otherwise requires.
At the beginning of your manuscript, include a list of previously published poems or short stories and where they were published.
Your submission should also include a synopsis, a one-paragraph bio and your contact information in the cover letter. Ensure you submit your final version. It will not accept any correction or new version after a piece has been selected.
impepho press does not accept simultaneous submissions. You must withdraw any manuscript submitted or accepted elsewhere. When withdrawing your work, respond to the same email you had sent initially for submission, with the heading: WITHDRAW SUBMISSION. It also does not accept translations.
Familiarise yourself with the press and what it is about before submitting a manuscript. The publishing team will announce its publishing decision on Jan. 15, 2019.
Send your manuscripts to getinfo@impephopress.co.za. The team does not have the capacity to acknowledge receiving manuscripts. So make sure you hit send and it actually sends.
Direct all inquiries to getinfo@impephopress.co.za.
