Deadline: July 22, 2016 (4 p.m.)
McGregor Poetry Festival opened its Voices on Fire Poetry Competition to unpublished poets ages 19+ and ages 13 to 18. Those ages 19+ should apply for the Open Category to win R 7,500 and a trophy. While poets ages 13 to 18 should apply for the High School Category to win a R2,500 book voucher and a trophy.

The finalists could see their poetry published in the annual “Poetry in McGregor” Anthology. They could also read their poems at the “Poetry in McGregor” weekend: August 26 – 28, 2016.

Voices on Fire Poetry Competition Guidelines

Poem must be your original, previously unpublished work written in English or Afrikaans or IsiXhosa. In addition, the length should be between 12 and 40 lines. You are allowed to submit two poems. However, your entries must be submitted separately. Especially relevant, in your submission, provide your name, date of birth and contact information.

The judges’ decision is final. In conclusion, the name of the winner in both categories will be announced at the prize-giving event. The event will take place on Saturday Aug. 27 at the Caritas at Temenos Retreat, Long Street entrance, McGregor. Time: 11.30 a.m.

About McGregor Poetry Festival

McGregor attracts interesting and colourful people many of whom are free spirited, tolerant and talented. The first edition of the festival took place in 2013. Consequently, the 4th edition will take place Aug. 26 – 28, 2016.
