Stanzas is a quarterly of new poetry by established and aspirant poets. It offers a dynamic range of voices and styles within a vast landscape of expressions.
Stanzas is a quarterly which self-funds through subscription. It accepts new, previously unpublished poems in English and Afrikaans. Each subscription covers four issues of Stanzas. Anyone may subscribe, but only those who subscribe may submit poems for publication. Subscription to Stanzas does not guarantee acceptance of poems, the choice of which is left to the editors’ discretion.
Sweet Magazine/Substance Books is an online platform for the expression of almost unheard of desires.
Promotes, enthuses and celebrates contemporary African writings. The African Street Writer(TASW) publishes literary works of writers from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and others countries and off-course, from African writers abroad.
The Single Story Foundation is a nonprofit organization which provides storytelling opportunities for Africans at home and in diaspora. The Single Story Foundation challenges the Western narratives, seeks for change in the way the African narrative is told, and foster an environment where young Africans can promote their technological, creative, educational and imaginative achievements or developments. We seek to change the stereotype through visual art, literature, and performing art. At The Single Story Foundation, we believe that storytelling is one of the ways we can fix the damage caused by Western storytelling.
The Swala Tribe is a Rwanda-based platform seeing the rise for poets and illustrators alike. We are now seeking submissions for our debut poetry anthology from African poets and those of African background. Send up to three of your best, previously unpublished poems of any length style, genre & theme. All poems should be primarily in English
Submissions should be sent as Word document to theswalatribe@gmail.com with the subject line “Submission: The Swala Tribe Poetry Anthology” and your bio (100 words max) in the body of the message, together with the author’s links to their Social Media pages, blog and/or website, etc… If sending more than one poem, make sure they are all in one document and each poem titled separately. Again, if your poem(s) happen to have a special way of formatting, let it be known at the foot of the document with ‘NOTE THAT:’, all caps. Deadline is on March 31st, 2019 at 11:59pm CAT
Writers retain copyright of their work right after publication but are required to mention us as the first publishers if the piece(s) happen to be published somewhere else. However, the Swala Tribe team reserves the right to make edits to selected works that suit the publication but artist will be notified and their consent to those edits sought for.
Note that we do NOT accept simultaneous submissions.
The Wide Margin is a new digital collection of essays, articles and illustrations which focus on discussion and critical thought about social, economic, political and cultural issues through a feminist lens. The Wide Margin intends to advance contemporary critical thought in Kenya, East Africa and Africa in an accessible way that is open, inclusive, imaginative and daring.

Born in Africa and bred in the diaspora, Transition is a unique forum for the freshest, most compelling, most curious ideas about race. It bills itself as “an anchor of deep reflection on black life and a map charting new routes through the globalized world.”
Transition is published three times annually by Indiana University Press. Now only accepts electronic submissions through Submittable. Submissions sent by physical mail will be recycled unread.
uHlanga is South Africa's progressive poetry press. Through the uHlanga New Poets series, uHlanga publishes debut collections from South Africa's most promising young voices.
uHlanga does not accept unsolicited poems or manuscripts for publication.
Wasafiri is Britain’s premier magazine for international contemporary writing. Published quarterly, it has established a distinctive reputation for promoting work by new and established voices across the globe.
Wasafiri’ is Kiswahili for travelers. The name was chosen because many of those who created the literatures in whichWasafiri was particularly interested have all in some sense been cultural travellers either through migration, transportation or else, in the more metaphorical sense of seeking an imagined cultural home.
